About the Wigtown Emporium

In 2018, John and Sara discovered the old pharmacy in Wigtown’s High Street. They were immediately captivated by the place, a beautiful old building with old shop counters and fittings including the original Victorian pharmacy drawers. Located in Scotland’s very own Booktown, this was the ideal place to open The Wigtown Emporium.

Both have life-long fascinations for treasure hunting and rescuing unusual objects.

John’s experience in the music industry and his time spent as a trader on London’s Portobello Road informs that side of the business with an interesting stock of musical instruments, vinyl and vintage tech.

Sara’s fondness for folk art and vintage textiles help to bring an evolving stock of curiosities to the intriguing range of goods on offer.

Together they discover and revive an ever changing and diverse range of vintage and retro pieces, wall art, cameras, books and jewellery to mention but a few.

Unusual objects, one-off items and the occasional “mystery object” often arrive and many fascinating discussions strike up with customers to discover the origins of such things – a pipe tobacco cartridge case, a strange metal beehive smoker…..

At The Wigtown Emporium, stock changes almost daily, so keep an eye open – you may find the very thing that you didn’t know that you couldn’t live without.
