This beautiful vase has been hand painted by Jessie Marion King, one of the famous Glasgow Girls. It is signed to the base with her initials and the rabbit and green gate. The vase is approximately 11cm high and 14cm diameter at its widest point. This is a rare chance to own beautiful example of one ofJessie King’s rare hand painted ceramic pieces. There is a hairline crack that is barely visible please see photographs.
Born in Glasgow 1875, Jessie King entered Glasgow School of Art 1893. Jessie taught at Glasgow School of Art 1899 – 1908. known for her book illustrations, she also designed bookplates, jewellery and fabric, and painted pottery. King was one of the artists known as the Glasgow Girls.. Her reputation was enhanced by frequent publication of her drawings in The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine of Fine and Applied Art , a magazine that exerted a major influence on the development of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements.
